Welcome to the Atlanta Group Psychotherapy Society Blog!

We are excited to announce the launch of the Atlanta Group Psychotherapy Society (AGPS) blog! We hope this new platform will serve as a community hub where AGPS members can share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives on all things related to group therapy.

A Space for Sharing and Learning

At AGPS, we believe in the power of collective wisdom. Group therapy encompasses many diverse theories, techniques, formats, ethics, and experiences. Our blog is an opportunity to hear from local practitioners and explore the many facets of group therapy. Whether you’re a seasoned therapist or just beginning your journey in group work, there’s always something valuable to learn and share.

Why Contribute to the AGPS Blog?

Contributing to the AGPS blog provides an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow therapists, educators, and mental health professionals in the Atlanta area and beyond. It’s a chance to:

  • Showcase Your Expertise: Share your unique perspective, insights, and approaches to group therapy, and highlight your areas of specialization.

  • Engage in Meaningful Conversations: Spark discussions on relevant topics and engage with other therapists who are passionate about the same issues.

  • Promote Your Work: Use the blog as a platform to promote upcoming workshops, seminars, or other events you may be hosting around group therapy and explain the why behind your projects. Blogs will be featured in the AGPS monthly newsletter.

  • Increase SEO: Guest blogging on this blog will include an author bio with links to your webpage, which are considered "backlinks" that help your SEO.

  • Learn from Others: Gain new insights and ideas from reading the experiences and approaches of your colleagues.

What Can You Write About?

Anything and everything group! We hope our blog will reflect the diverse experience and knowledge of our community by welcoming posts on a wide range of topics, such as:

  • Theoretical approaches to group therapy

  • Personal experiences that come from group work (ex. the first time you experienced the power of group, mistakes you've made as a facilitator and what you learned, the fear of volunteering in your first fishbowl, etc)

  • Techniques for facilitating different types of groups (e.g., skills groups, process groups, DnD groups)

  • The challenges and rewards of working with specific populations in group settings (e.g., adolescents, trauma survivors, LGBTQ+ clients)

  • Innovative interventions and creative group therapy exercises

  • Reflections on ethical dilemmas or professional development in group therapy

  • Anything else you can think of!

How to Get Involved

We want this blog to be a space where every voice in our community is heard. If you are interested in sharing your thoughts, experiences, or expertise, we encourage you to consider writing a guest post!

To submit a blog post proposal, please fill out our Guest Blogger Submission Form. We welcome contributions from all members, regardless of your level of experience. Whether you have a fully developed idea or just the seed of one, we’d love to hear from you!

We look forward to building this blog together and creating a dynamic, informative, and supportive online space for the AGPS community. Thank you for being a part of this AGPS and for all that you do!

Happy Writing and Reading,

The Atlanta Group Psychotherapy Society
